The Electronic Banyon Tree
Posted On 11/21/2007 16:16:30 by DiveMaster

While cruising the net in search of ANYTHING underwater, I noted that except for a few forums (a LOT of forums actually), I never really found a site that kind of glued all the interesting underwater people into one place. In my commercial diving career (Canada), we used to have a yearly gathering of diver types at Underwater Canada - and we met in a bar under a plastic Banyon Tree (yes .. it did exist - and was a tacky as you would imagine.) Many an hour we would sit there, tell yarns (and lies) about our great exploits, deeds ... and laugh at the wet tales of woe from others. As the hours wore on, the bar tab got bigger .. the tales got bigger - and the tree even bigger (sliding under the table helps!).

Well ... that bar is long since gone and damn if I know where that plastic tree is. So - in effect - this is the electronic version of the Banyon Tree. The tales will be the same, the folks will be more varied (commercial, sports, military, etc.) but in the end - it is all about community and getting together.

So pour your own poison, don't wreck this place .. and welcome to MyBubbleBuddies.com ... the electronic Banyon Tree.

Best to all ..
Doug Elsey - Webmaster and keeper of the tree!

I remember that Banyan Tree rather well.It was the location of some of the best tales and lies in the industry. As the nights wore on the distinction between tales and lies got foggier. It was the ideal listner because it never talked back, and you knew it would not spread any rumours. Good thing too, as the divorce rate is high enough in the industry. A word of advice to you young sprouts in the industry; Don't make too many decompression errors or you end up remenising under phony trees, that no matter how long you drink under them, they never drop their leaves. I got awful drunk one time with the webmaster waiting for those leaves to drop. At least that's our story and we have stuck to it for 30 years. I actually think the tree is planted in Doug's back yard. Narwhal 1.
